Active Ingredients of Preparation H and Equate
The maximum strength formulas have the exact same active ingredients.
Here is the Preparation H Maximum Strength active ingredient panel
Here is the Equate Maximum Strength active ingredient panel.
Active Ingredients: Glycerin 14.4%, Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%, Pramoxine HCl 1%, and White petrolatum 15%.
What do these active ingredients do?
Glycerin 14.4% - Glycerin is a very common skin protectant. It is used in many ointment and cream formulas, for skin conditions and for cosmetics.
Glycerin forms a barrier and helps keep out toxins and prevent further irritation. Most people have no issues with using Glycerin but a seldom few will have allergic reactions to it.
Phenylephrine HCl 0.25% - This is one of the most important ingredients. Phenylephrine HCl 0.25% is a vasoconstrictor. It essentially reduces hemorrhoid tissue by shrinking arteries sonf capillaries.
The great thing is that symptoms vanish as your hemorrhoids shrink and go away. A vasoconstrictor is very important to have when battling hemorrhoids.
Pramoxine HCl 1% - The is a topical pain numbing agent. Pramoxine HCl 1% blocks nerve endings so that you do not experience pain.
When you have debilitating hemorrhoids like I have had, then this part of the treatment is a godsend.
White Petrolatum 15% - White Petrolatum 15% is similar to Glycerin in that it works as a skin protectant, forming a barrier between your hemorrhoid and air.
This helps speed up the healing process by reducing contamination and irritation. Plus, it helps prevent aggravation from physical movement and helps lock in the other active ingredients so they can target your hemorrhoid..

The reviews are very even after reviewing the top commerce websites online. After reading the reviews, some people claim there is a drop-off in quality from Preparation H to Equate.
Still, some say that Equate works just as well as Preparation H. If we had to choose, we would say that Preparation H is the winner since they also have a presence on Jet & Target, and are the #1 hemorrhoid brand in the USA.
Outcome: Preparation H is the winner.
Overall Price and Value: Which is More Expensive?
Preparation H is almost double the price of Equate on all the major e-commerce sites, including Target, Amazon, Walmart & Jet.
If you have hemorrhoids but are ultra dollar conscious, you can easily order Equate for hemorrhoids 1st and see if it works for you. That will save you some money right off the bat.
Still, if you are very serious about getting relief for your hemorrhoids you can always pay a little extra for Preparation H, but you may be getting the exact same product. The cheapest we found Equate was for $4.16 at Walmart.
If you spend more than $25 you get free shipping.
The cheapest we found Preparation H was $6.29 at Target, but you would have to spend more than $25 for free shipping.
Amazon

Final Review: Preparation H or Equate?
After reviewing all the evidence, we would have to suggest Preparation H over Equate. Preparation H is a more popular and trusted brand.
They have several products for hemorrhoids and the maximum strength cream is our #1 pick.
Equate is an excellent option if you would like to save a few bucks when you make your hemorrhoid purchase. But, if you want to go for quality over savings we would suggest Preparation H.
