We will take a look at the reviews and ingredient list of Anacare to see if it's worth trying for hemorrhoids. But first, what is Anacare and does it actually work for hemorrhoid relief?
Anacare is a hemorrhoid cream that works topically. It is different than other hemorrhoid creams or ointments in that it is not a FDA registered OTC hemorrhoid medicine.
Here is a list of the best hemorrhoid creams of 2018
This product actually originates from and is made in the United Kingdom. It is marketed as a cosmetic and not a medicine, since the base of its ingredients are natural and not actual medicines.
Our hemorrhoid treatment guide can help you find the best treatment for your hemorrhoids.
Is Anacare a Natural Product?
Yes, Anacare is a product that has 99% natural ingredients in it, with the other 1% being from the preservatives Dehydroacetic Acid and Benzyl Alcohol.
However, we do also see that it has Titanium Dioxide in it. While not considered to be too unsafe, the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetic Database considers it a low health hazard and moderate link to cancer.
Dehydroacetic Acid is considered to be a low hazard by the EWG cosmetic database (1).
When used in small amounts it is probably safe but we recommend you do your own research prior to using.
Anacare Ingredients List
So, we’ve talked about a couple ingredients that aren't great, but since Anacare has 99% natural ingredients it definitely has some good ones.
Obviously, Hamamelis Virginiana, or Witch Hazel as its known is an extremely popular ingredient for hemorrhoids.
Witch Hazel is in many OTC hemorrhoid wipes and hemorrhoid creams, as it works as an astringent that reduces hemorrhoids. As the hemorrhoid is reduced the symptoms begin to vanish as well, leaving you feeling much, much better.
What is our main concern with the Witch Hazel found in Anacare? Well, it doesn’t say exactly how much of the witch hazel is in it.
Cera Flava is another ingredient in Anacare that we really like. Cera Flava is actually just a fancy word for beeswax. When Beeswax is applied to the skin or hemorrhoid, it forms a protective barrier.
This barrier stops your hemorrhoid from becoming more irritated. Since the beeswax forms the protective barrier, it also locks in the ingredients that actually shrink the hemorrhoid (like Witch Hazel).
In LithuaniaCera Flava is very commonly used in ointments and creams for many skin ailments (2).
We really like the choice of Cera Flava in this formula.
The next ingredient found in Anacare is Melaleuca Alternifolia Oil, or Tea Tree Oil.
Tea Tree Oil is commonly used for many types of skin conditions. It has anti-septic and anti-bacterial properties that help it treat wounds (3).
Our tea tree oil post discusses how to use tea tree oil for hemorrhoids in detail.
Its also been used for skin tags and worts. It has a very pungent smell, but is an excellent choice for hemorrhoids when used in a natural formula in the right amounts.
Anacare should not be used for bleeding hemorrhoids.
Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract produces Calendula Oil. This oil is commonly used for damaged and dry skin.
It has wonderful moisturizing properties that allow it to work well on dry skin. It also helps reduce inflammation, and people have used it for bruising and stretch marks.
This ingredient is seen in many of the top cosmetic formulations, but not commonly found in hemorrhoids formulas.
Because Anacare is not FDA registered, we do not think that pregnant women with hemorrhoids should use it. Instead, use a product that is FDA registered so you know exactly what you are getting in your body.

What Types of Hemorrhoids Does Anacare Work For?
Since Anacare is a cream, it will work for external hemorrhoids. An external thrombosed hemorrhoid will have a clot. If your symptoms do not get better over a few days, then we suggest you do not use Anacare and instead see a doctor.
You might try to use it on internal prolapsed hemorrhoids, but we would recommend you see a hemorrhoid doctor if you have one of those.
Do External Hemorrhoids Go Away With Anacare? No, there is no research to suggest that your hemorrhoids will go away when using Anacare. It will, however, help you deal with your hemorrhoidal symptoms.
Anacare Reviews and Customer Testimonials
The best way of deciding if a product is worth trying is to take a look at its reviews. Anacare is currently offered on Amazon is the USA and the UK. Anacare’s reviews on Amazon.com are slightly under the average when compare to other top creams or ointments like Preparation H. Anacare has a 3.9 star rating on a total of 19 reviews.
The top reviewer says that they like the product but wish it had a more cooling effect instead of the warm feeling. This means that while it is good for hemorrhoid pain, there are probably better products for itching and burning. This guide will help you learn how to stop hemorrhoid itching and burning naturally.
The most critical reviewer says that it did not seem to help make things any better.
On Amazon UK, the product has many more reviews. It has a total of 154 reviews with a 3.8 star rating.
Once again, compared to the top hemorrhoid ointment or creams, this is on the lower side. For example, Anusol is a competitor that has a 4.4 star rating on 241 reviews.
The top positive Anacare review from amazon.co.uk stated that he was very happy in the end. He didn’t get much relief at first but in the end “perservered” and was happy it works.
The top critical review for Anacare in the UK stated that is did provide some relief, but not quite what was hoped for.
All in all, we think the reviews show that while Anacare is a decent product, there are likely better options out there for hemorrhoids, like Anusol or Preparation H.
If you are serious about natural ingredients, and that is more important to you then product efficacy, then Anucare may be right for you.
Is Anacare a Scam?
No, Anacare is absolutely not a scam. The company has a prominent presence in the United Kingdom and a smaller presence in the US.
They seem to take care of their customers and even offer a money back guarantee.
I Wasn’t Satisfied With Anacare, Can I Get a Refund?
Yes, the company provides a money back guarantee. There are 3 steps you must take to get a refund, including letting them know why you want to return it.
Please note that you can only use 1 tube when returning multiple items. This is actually a common guarantee from companies because there are some customers who abuse the system.
Some people abuse the system by ordering multiple bottles, using them all, and then returning them for a refund. This policy protects companies from that.
How Much Does Anacare Cost?
The price of one tube of Anacare on amazon US is $13.45. This is for a 100ml tube or about 3.3 ounces.
The cost for 1 tube of Anacare on Amazon UK is currently not showing as the product is not listed there. On the official Anacare website, the price of Anacare is £7.99 for a 25 ml or .8oz tube.
Our Final Word on Anacare
While we like the ingredient list found in Anacare, we are unsure how much of each ingredient is in the formula.
The powerhouse ingredient in this formula is Witch Hazel, and since we have no idea how much Witch Hazel is in the formula, it’s hard for us to recommend it.
Plus, in looking at all the Anacare reviews online, we have found similar products in the marketplace that have better overall reviews, like Preparation H.
For that reason alone, we would suggest you try other products for hemorrhoids. If you are suffering greatly from hemorrhoids, we recommend the following products.
