For those who suffer from the skin condition known as rosacea, the redness and pus-filled bumps resembling acne that accompany the disorder can bring enough heartache, but rosacea can also itch and cause throbbing pain, making it particularly debilitating.
Commonly triggered by a host of different things including heat, cold, certain foods and beverages, stress, lack of sleep, physical exertion, sun exposure and harsh skin care products, rosacea is complex and problematic for the millions of people who suffer from it.
According to research by scientists from the National University of Ireland, the condition that impacts about three percent of the population – usually women with fair skin between the ages of 30 and 50 with weakened immune systems – could be caused by bacteria associated with tiny mites that reside in the skin.
The research, which appeared in the Journal of Medical Microbiology, found that those with rosacea have more of the mites than those without the condition, and the study could ultimately lead to a cure for the complex condition.
Is Rosacea Permanent?
Still, with no real cure available, those with rosacea continue to search out the best treatment options for their disorder.
While rosacea is considered a chronic condition, and can flare up at any time, the National Rosacea Foundation says that regular treatment for the condition can keep it in check for many people.
The worst of the symptoms – facial burning, stinging and itching – are also among the most common, and can also be accompanied by swelling, especially around the nose, caused by inflammation.
Rosacea and Sun Exposure
For many people with rosacea, sun exposure can worsen the condition. Part of the problem is the warmth of the sun’s rays.
A vast majority of those with rosacea say that warm environments can trigger redness, itching, throbbing pain and pustules, so much so that it can bring an active life to a standstill.
“I was 19 when rosacea hit me,” said Mike L. from Arizona on the Rosacea Research Foundation website.
“Every time I went outside in the sun or heat, my face would turn bright red and become swollen and burn.”
Mike was essentially forced to stay in his air-conditioned dorm room so much that he dropped out of school, and the once-popular guy who played college basketball went into a deep depression due to his debilitating condition.
“Rosacea has dramatically altered every aspect of my life,” he said.
Many of the people sharing their stories on the Rosacea Research Foundation were equally disheartened, most because they have lost their social lives avoiding things that trigger their condition.
Rosacea is heartbreaking due to the mental and physical pain it causes, but those who suffer from it should know there are successful treatment options.
Rosarid Harnesses Nature’s Raw Power
For those with rosacea, the best treatments are those that soothe the burning pain, address the inflammation, target the bacteria associated with the condition and protect raw skin and open sores.
Sufferers of the condition also often have dry, flaky skin, which many of the prescription, laboratory-produced treatments on the market can exacerbate.
“Active inflammation on the face from any cause results in tiny little breaks in the skin,” Dr. Elise Brantley, a dermatologist at the University of Cincinnati told Everyday Health.
“Because of this breakdown in your natural skin barrier, many things can further irritate the skin, including topical moisturizers with numerous chemicals or fragrances.”
Rosarid, however, fights rosacea gently and naturally by using ingredients harvested from nature. The mixture of botanical extracts works in synergy to soothe the burning, itching and pain of the condition while offering much-needed hydration that goes beneath the skin’s surface to heal and protect.
It also offers antibacterial compounds that can fight the bacteria associated with rosacea, enhancing the healing process.
How Does Rosarid Help Itching and Pain?
There are many specific ingredients in Rosarid that target the itching, burning and pain of rosacea, which are the most debilitating aspects of the condition.
They are specifically selected to be gentle enough to use on broken, damaged skin, and include:
- Sophor Flaveescens: A member of the evergreen family, this medicinal herb commonly used in China is a powerful anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant, according to a 2011 study from Australian researchers. As an anti-inflammatory, it can address both the redness and itching associated with rosacea, while antioxidant properties can protect skin from further damage. The most effective botanical compounds are found in the plant’s root.
- Shea butter: This exotic nut butter melts at skin temperature, so it is quickly absorbed into skin, healing to ease the dryness of rosacea that can contribute to itching. It also offers antioxidant-rich vitamins that can heal skin beneath the surface.
- Mango butter: This light moisturizer also melts into skin, restoring lost moisture. It also promotes gentle skin cell turnover and the regeneration of skin cells thanks to natural fruit enzymes.
- Kiwi root: Kiwi not only contains fruit enzymes that help naturally slough off dead skin, it also offers antibacterial properties that can protect against the bacteria that has been linked to rosacea, according to a 2012 study from Chinese researchers.
- Avocado oil: This skin-friendly moisturizer contains rich fatty acids that help boost the production of collagen, one of the main proteins in skin cells.
- Aloe vera: This important plant extract offers a wide range of nutrients that help ease the itching and pain of rosacea as well as it has historically addressed burns. Aloe softens the rough skin, and has two specific anti-inflammatory compounds - campesterol and bradykinin – help generate new skin cells, increase blood flow and help ease the swelling associated with rosacea.
- Cucumber extract: Cucumber is a natural diuretic, which is why spa treatments often rely on cucumber slices to reduce the swelling and puffiness of the tender skin beneath the eyes. By including the gentle yet effective botanical, Rosarid goes to work reducing the swelling around the nose that can accompany rosacea along with the redness, helping to restore self-confidence and a feeling of well-being.
